Complete this course to earn 1 CPD hour

Discusses the epidemiology of skin cancer, its diagnostic procedures, interventions and the nurse’s role.

Skin cancer is an extremely common form of cancer, and nowhere more so than here in Australasia. In Australia alone, about 80% of all new cases of cancer are skin cancers – a statistic that presents enormous challenges for the healthcare industry.

In this important module, you will look at behaviours that contribute to the development of skin cancer and outline essential health education strategies for its prevention.

You will discuss the epidemiology of skin cancer and its diagnostic procedures. You will consider the various types of cancers and their presentations, consider the issues of body image, malignancy, pain and early detection, and study the range of medical interventions, including optimal wound management.

Most importantly, you will focus on nursing management and your ability, as a nurse, to enhance a patient’s state of mind and coping skills as they undergo treatment for potentially life-threatening skin cancer.

Completing this online module accumulates one hour of CPD for nurses.
